Juneau Spruce Corporation incorporated under the laws of the Territory of Alaska on April 19, 1947 and began timber and sawmill operations at 496 S. Franklin St., Juneau. Corporate offices were located in Portland, Oregon. In December, the mill closed for renovations and reopened in March of 1948. One month later, April 9, 1948, the ILWU picketed the sawmill.
